Külpstrasse in the old town area of Stralsund connects Schillstrasse, at the level of the Johanniskloster, and the Old Market. Fährstrasse branches off from Külpstrasse. The street is part of the core area of the UNESCO World Heritage Historic Old Towns of Stralsund and Wismar.
The street was initially called platea fratrum because it leads from the Old Market directly to the Johanniskloster. The Külp family, who were very important in Stralsund from the 14th to the 15th century, or more precisely their representative Johannes von Külpen, who also became mayor in 1407, gave the street its name Külpstrasse.
