a piece of vertical seabed of the Rhine-Hessian primal sea, which one must not miss in Weinheim. From this time 35 million years ago - the Oligocene - finds such as manatee bones, shark teeth, oysters and mussels come. A manatee velvet reconstructed from the finds can be visited in the Alzeyer Museum. Findings from here are represented in all major natural history museums from New York to Moscow.

The geotope near Alzey-Weinheim shows deposits of the sea from the Tertiary (Oligocene) period around 30 million years ago. So it's a former seabed, not a surf cliff. The Rheinhessen coastal path offers the rare opportunity to travel back in time to the geological past of Rheinhessen. The whole region was flooded by a subtropical sea 30 million years ago. Here in this region the coastline of that time ran with the most varied of coast shapes, numerous peninsulas, bays and an archipelago made of volcanic subsoil
