The foundation stone for today's church was laid in August 1888. The church was extended by a new building and the ship was raised. The former domed tower was replaced by a pointed tower, and for consecration in 1889, the patronal feast of the Assumption was granted to the church. Worth seeing is the Rococo altar by Bernhard Kamm, the last prince-bishop court sculptor Bambergs and the organ by Johann Wolf.

The patronage "Maria (or in other spelling: Mariä) Himmelfahrt" of this church in Höfen refers to one of the many commemorative days or feast days in honor of Mary, the mother of God. It goes back to the feast of their physical acceptance into heaven, which the Church celebrates annually on August 15th.
