Nägeleinsplatz is located on the western edge of the old town and directly on the Pegnitz, with popular sights such as the Kettensteg and the Weinstadel within sight. Until now, the square was mainly used as a car park. More greenery, attractive access to the water, better paths and a better quality of stay are the goals of the redesign, which will also include the Hallertürlein, Kettensteg and Weinstadel areas as part of the "green pearl necklace".

The shore area was opened up to the water at this point and redesigned with seating. New views open up here, including of the Kettensteg. Approval was given at the end of November 2022, further construction phases such as a promenade along the bank in an easterly direction will follow.

The bank of the Pegnitz will be opened towards the city in three places in the old town, this is the second section between the water tower and the flea market, opening at the end of November 2023. The first section is a little further west on Henkersteg and was completed in November 2022.
