The Church of SS.mo Rosario – The Architectural Complex
There is no reliable information about the date of the construction of the Church of the SS.mo Rosario, it is certainly known that the church in the old town was destroyed by the earthquake of 1783. In the new village, therefore, construction work began in 1787 and was completed in the last year of the eighteenth century. The facade, designed by the central body of the building and the lines of the gabled roof, has undergone various renovations, the last in 1980: the demolition of the old bell tower and the construction of the current one date from that date. The entrance is surrounded by two Tuscan columns supporting an architrave with a tympanum; Four faux Ionic columns are drawn over a rectangular top, alternating with three lobed frames. The pediment shows in the center, in bas-relief, the symbol of the ARCHCONFRATERNITY OF SS. MO ROSARIO (THREE HILLS AND THREE LILIES) and is surmounted by a Latin cross. The bell tower is characterized by two orders of arched windows in which eight bells on wheels stand. The plan of the church has a single rectangular nave, while the interior is lit by eight windows. Walls, ceiling and altars are richly decorated with late eighteenth-century stuccoes.
