A wooden chapel in Buckendorf was first mentioned in 1362.[5] In the beginning it belonged to the parish of St. Martin's Church in Weichenwasserlos and in 1451 came into the parish of the newly founded parish in Stadelhofen. Today's chapel was built in several phases. The oldest section is the choir, dating from 1491. After the Thirty Years' War, Leonhard's patronage was changed to that of Saint Sebastian, the patron saint against the plague, which had hit Buckendorf hard during the war. In the centuries that followed, numerous smaller and larger conversions and renovations took place.
