The Heinrich Harrer Museum covers an area of 1,000 m2 and contains over 5,000 fascinating exhibits that tell the story of Heinrich Harrer as a person and of his travels and expeditions. The Tibet section of the museum includes a Buddhist prayer room that was personally consecrated by His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama in 1992. On the rock face opposite the museum is the Lingkor, a Tibetan pilgrimage path. Along this circular path you will find symbols and objects of Tibetan Buddhism. This was also consecrated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2002.

The building itself is a typical school in the style of Austrian historicism. It has a simple two-wing structure with a central transverse wing that forms a central projection with a gable on the facade. It is a listed building. From 1874 to 1968 it was the local elementary school.
The Heinrich Harrer Museum was founded in 1983. It has up to 20,000 visitors a year.
