Technically not FREE as there is a price of $5 payable at the Mitre 10, but when we camped here it was a Sunday and the Mitre 10 was closed, so free on this occasion! Even if you pay, $5 is so cheap that it's almost free anyway.
Pretty nice spot, but don't be lured in the by the lovely green grass - it's green because there are sprinklers!
Toilets are available and there is a sheltered picnic area.
