Søndersø Church was built around the 12th century. The church was consecrated to St. Peter and Paul in the Middle Ages, and the north chapel from the 16th century was consecrated to the Virgin Mary.

The tower was probably built in the late Middle Ages after the Reformation. Originally the tower had a north-south gable, which was replaced by a pyramid point in 1753.

The church is open to tourists and visitors every day of the week at 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. - but not in connection with private church activities.

Søndersø Church is an impressive medieval church on the island of Funen in Denmark. It was built in the 12th century and was originally dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul. The church is known for its late Gothic frescoes, which are some of the most beautiful in the country. These frescoes depict scenes such as the Annunciation of the Birth of Jesus, the Gregorian Mass and the Coronation of Mary. The church also houses a rare iron door with a Latin inscription dated 1483 and two interesting 16th century tombstones in the chancel. The church's baptismal font is older than the church itself and probably dates from the wooden church that preceded the stone church. The church is open daily to tourists and visitors and offers a fascinating mix of history and art.
