Chiesa Del Ss. Rosario In Borgia
The Church of SS.mo Rosario - The architectural complex
There is no definite information about the date of construction of the SS.mo Rosario church, but it is known that the old town church was destroyed by the 1783 earthquake. In the new village, therefore, construction began in 1787 and was completed in the last year of the eighteenth century. The facade, designed by the central body of the building and the lines of the gable roof, has undergone various renovations, the last one in 1980: the demolition of the old bell tower and the construction of the current one date from this date. The entrance is surrounded by two Tuscan columns that support an architrave with a tympanum; Four fake Ionic columns are drawn over a rectangular top, alternating with three lobed frames. The gable shows the symbol of the ARCHCONFRATERNITY OF SS. MO ROSARIO (THREE HILLS AND THREE LILIES) in a bas-relief and is surmounted by a Latin cross. The bell tower is characterized by two orders of arched windows in which eight bells stand on wheels. The plan of the church has a single nave of rectangular shape, while the interior is illuminated by eight windows. The walls, ceiling and altars are richly decorated with stucco from the late eighteenth century.
