The castle Boetzelaer in Kalkar-Appeldorn is one of the oldest strategic water castles on the Lower Rhine. For over five centuries, the former stately knight's fortress from the Middle Ages was the ancestral home of one of the most important aristocratic families on the Lower Rhine. Today, this historic monument has reopened after a long period of renovation. The foundations of the castle date back to the 13th century and the newly built frontage impresses with modern glass design of the 21st century. [Source: burgboetzelaer.de]
