In 1946, Ernst Majer-Leonhard took over the management of the Taunusschule, today's Taunusgymnasium, under the most difficult conditions. In the years that followed until his retirement in 1957, he played a decisive role in the development of the school. In 1996, a bronze statue was erected in his honor at the former site of the school.

Majer-Leonhard attended the Lessing-Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main, where he passed the Abitur exam in 1908. He then studied ancient languages, ancient art and Protestant religion in Munich, where he was awarded a Dr. phil. received his doctorate. During the First World War he served in the War History Department of the General Staff.
