    The earliest written mention of the place so far was on December 7, 1230. In the 16th century the place was temporarily abandoned, so desolate. The residents moved to Rieth. In 1720, people rebuilt their village on the Selbach a little further away from the former location. Since then, the houses and buildings have been particularly well cared for and are now listed. In 1899 a hunter shot the last wolf in Thuringia in the village hall. Today 125 people live in the village. The parish paroches with the neighboring town of Rieth.
