The manor house was built in 1545.
Fontane tells the story of the generous Lord von Ribbeck on Ribbeck in Havelland. He gives away the pears from the tree in his garden to passing children. When old Ribbeck feels his death is near, he decrees that a pear be laid in his grave. A new pear tree will sprout from this tree, and the children can continue to eat from its fruit, even though its inheritance keeps the garden and the tree there under lock and key.
