The holy well is the historical and religious root of St. Corona am Schöpfl. The chronicle reports that since time immemorial pilgrims have come to this remote forest area to find healing or alleviation of their ailments.

During a Turkish invasion in 1683, a monk from the nearby Kleinmariazell monastery wanted to bring a monstrance with the holy of holies to safety. Since the Turks were already close behind him, he threw them into the well. Immediately the steeds of the Turks fell to their knees and remained frozen. Sixty years later the monstrance was recovered and miraculously the host that had been in the water for so long was unharmed.
