an almost unmanageable amount of checkerboard flowers, blooming a splendor, even if the approach via the very well signposted path is a bit difficult

The flower of the year 1993, the checkerboard flower, can be admired here for a few weeks from mid-April. Just leave your bike in front and walk the few hundred meters to the meadow. Most of the time it is well signposted (green arrow).

The chessboard flower / chess flower is part of the pretty Hetlinger municipal coat of arms. The protected plant (Fritillaria meleagris) is a lily family and larger stocks can be found in the Elbe meadows of the Haseldorfer Marsch.
The flowers of the bulbous plant have a pretty checkerboard pattern, mostly purple, but there are also white and some pink specimens. The checkered flower is listed as "Endangered" in the Red List of Threatened Species.
