The traditional ship port operated by the Hamburg Maritim Foundation is primarily the home port for the foundation's own fleet. But other historic ships can also find a berth here in the middle of Hafencity, depending on availability. This is particularly true during major maritime events taking place in the port of Hamburg.

The FAIRPLAY VIII was built in 1962 at the Theodor Buschmann Wilhelmsburg shipyard. In the 1960s and 1970s, she was one of the high-tech vehicles of its kind. With ships getting larger and older, she is now maintained by the Hamburg Maritim Foundation as a traditional ship.

When it opened in 1866, the Sandtorhafen was the first artificially created harbor basin in Hamburg in which seagoing vessels could be handled alongside the quay. Today there are beautiful traditional ships in the middle of HafenCity.
