The Schifferwiege is a thatched house from the late 17th century near the Bodden, and is one of the oldest in the region. It is a prime example of Wustrow's captain's house architecture. However, it is not the oldest house. The Fischlandhaus is probably the oldest house in town.

The Schifferwiege (Shipwright's Cradle) on Neue Straße is the oldest house in the community. Its name is derived from a midwife who is said to have lived here and delivered children who later went to sea as captains or helmsmen. Other sources state that the name derives from a 1935 novel of the same name by Carl von Bremen.
