It used to be the main entrance to the castle in the south, today a small, quiet quarter around a tiny square. The Wallenstein Square (Valdstejnské Námestí) was formerly called Fünfkirchenplatz / Petikostelní Námestí, as a sign with the German and Czech name indicates. This is where the market took place before it was moved to Malostranské Square in the 13th century, given the rapid development of the city.

At this place (Wallensteinplatz) is the Wallenstein Palace (Valdštejnský palác)
extensive palace complex, first secular monumental building of the early baroque in Prague. It was built in the years 1624–1630 in place of 26 houses, six gardens, two brick factories and a plot for Albrecht von Wallenstein (1583–1634), one of the most powerful and richest Czech aristocrats in the period after the Battle of White Mountain . Today the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic sits here. The adjoining Wallenstein Garden is open to the public in summer.
