Here the River Loth flows into the sea. You can reach the other bank via the stones carried by the river. A look inland over wild gorse bushes to the nearby hills is worth a trip here. Apart from that, it is deserted. Those who do not hike here via Brora can easily get here via the campsite at Lothbeg Point. Also a great spot to pitch your tent.

Crossing the Loth Burn is an adventure and a highlight of the John O’ Groats Trail between Brora and Helmsdale!

The Loth Burn is 4-5 m wide and its water is typically 10-15 cm deep (but deeper when the Burn is in spate or when the tide is high).

To cross the Loth Burn you will have to either wade the Burn near to where it joins the sea (this is where the Burn tends to be shallowest) or make your way back-up towards the nearby railway bridge and find a route across the Burn by stepping on the rocks that lie in the Burn at this place. The latter option will require negotiating some gorse bushes to gain access but your feet should remain dry!

There are plans to build a footbridge over the Burn but this may not happen for some years.
