Definitely a great tour! But beware!!! The wooden planks are really slippery when you are wet. I already slipped there on my bike. It's not funny when the bog is on the right and left ... Well. At least there are no crocodiles ... Have fun cycling!

The Stellmoor-Ahrensburger tunnel valley is particularly interesting from a geological point of view. During the last ice age, melt water flowed into tunnels below the glacier, so that the subsoil was cut to different extents. Many Stone Age finds have also been discovered in this area.
Here you can wonderfully forget the time on created hiking and walking trails. On the Alfred Rust hiking trail you follow the traces of the first settlers and you can use information boards to get a comprehensive picture of the geology and the archaeological significance of the tunnel valley.

The new boardwalk is really great and always worth a detour.
You can use it to cycle through the moor with great views of nature. The boardwalk is floating and it rocks a bit when you drive on it. It was great fun to drive here.
It can only be very slippery when wet - so be careful!
The screed path is clearly only signposted as a pedestrian path.

I am really excited! Everglades in Hamburg - only flora and fauna are different. The long jetty is walkable and passable and opens up the moor and what lives there. This really is a spectacular nature experience, which allows one here. Really great.

The floating bridge on the moor hiking trail.
A 320-meter-long floating wooden bridge, which is unique in Germany, leads across the nature reserve in the Ahrensburg tunnel valley.
From the P + R car park Ahrensburg West, cross the long-distance railway line over a pedestrian bridge. Follow the hiking trail to the right. The Moorwanderweg bridge is reached after about 5 to 10 minutes. The floating bridge ends at the foot of the early medieval castle hill of the former Arnesvelde castle, surrounded by ancient beeches and oaks.

We can only hope that the floating structure has a longer lifespan than the old fixed boardwalk.
The old one has also been revised in between. After how many years I can't say anymore.

Edit: In March 2020, seven small information boards were placed on the new footbridge and two large information boards at each end of the boardwalk. It's very interesting how the unimaginably huge masses of ice have created it all!

Edit2: Probably by combining highlights it is exciting to see how super bad the old plank path was. There were sometimes pretty sloping section transitions. Literally. :-)
