The Prenzlauer Tor was built at the same time as the city wall around 1300.
A modified street management made 1866 the gate superfluous. The result was an urban spray house with a covered kennel. As part of the establishment of the museum from 1953 small-scale reconstruction measures were carried out and expanded the cloister as an office space. After the refurbishment in 2010, it was reopened, and between the gate and the porch a generous space was created, which houses the Museum of Urban History.

The Prenzlauer Tor is a gate of the listed city fortifications of Templin.
It is located in the eastern part of the old town of Templin, at the beginning of the road leading to Prenzlau.
