The station used to have a greater significance. This is where the narrow-gauge railway started into the Preßnitz valley to Jöhstadt. The narrow-gauge station was located in front of the station. Here you can still see parts of the narrow-gauge tracks. There is also a model of a steam locomotive and a section of the three-rail track. This track was needed because the narrow-gauge railway used a section of the standard-gauge tracks towards Annaberg.
Unfortunately, the narrow-gauge railway was demolished during the GDR era, but was rebuilt as a museum railway from Steinbach to Jöhstadt.

Until 1984, the station was divided into the area of the narrow-gauge railway, Pressnitz Valley Railway - popularly also called Pressnitz Dachshund, and standard-gauge railway from Chemnitz to Bärenstein. As the name suggests, the narrow-gauge railway ran from Wolkenstein to Jöhstadt through the Pressnitz Valley.
