Dam Square is without doubt the most famous and most popular square in the city. Here Rokin, Damrak and Kalverstraat converge. The dam was built in the late 13th century to protect the city from flooding. From the square you can see historic buildings such as the Royal Palace, the Nieuwe Kerk and the Bijenkorf, the wax museum Madame Tussauds and the National Monument.

It is located in the center of the medieval city center and is the site of numerous buildings of national importance. Built here in the 13th century dam in the river Amstel was named after the square.
