About 200 years ago Johanna Stegen (a maid) stole ammunition from French occupation troops and gave them to the poorly equipped, advancing Prussians.
A look in the other direction is also worthwhile: there is a tree that is well worth seeing.
Not far from the monument is the "Bastion", one of four former fortifications in the city.

According to legend, Johanna Stegen collected the ammunition left over during the Napoleonic War of Liberation in 1813 and supplied the soldiers of the city with them, who threatened to run out, which would have a decisive effect on the battle.

Johanna Katharina Elisabeth Stegen, from 1817 Johanna Hindersin (born January 11, 1793 [1] in Lüneburg; † January 12, 1842 in Berlin) was known as the hero girl of Lüneburg.
As a souvenir, a young woman is dressed up as Johanna Stegen every year and she cleans the monument in Lüneburg. She tells her story to those who speak to her.
