The early Gothic church is from the village of Liptovská Mara, which was flooded by the dam.
The church was probably built in 1260 - 1280. Following the layout of an earlier nave, it was lengthened on the east and west sides. A sacristy was built on the north side. The last major architectural intervention in the shape of the church was the construction of the baroque tower in 1635.
