The menu at the Schloss Thurnstein restaurant ranges from Mediterranean delicacies to Tyrolean specialities. The homemade desserts, cakes and strudel are also very popular with our guests.
In our family business, we have hot meals from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Our gates will remain closed on Thursday.

In 1276, the castle was first mentioned as "Thurm Platzleid", the current name Thurnstein appears for the first time in 1478. Meinhard II. Count of Tyrol gave Konrad Milser "Thurm Platzleid" as a fief in 1282. The owners then changed constantly until the 17th century, when the von Egen family from Merano acquired the castle. This family also had the north wing added in the 18th century.
Thurnstein Castle is still managed today by the descendants of the von Egen family, and some rooms were converted into a restaurant after the end of World War I. Thurnstein Castle currently houses a hotel in the former farm building and a restaurant. The well-known Napoleon wine is served there - its name refers to the arrival of the message that Emperor Napoleon III had been captured. back at Sedan. West of Castle Tyrol, at about the same level, at the crossroads of the paths leading from Algund and Gratsch to Tyrol, in the middle of the vineyards stands Thurnstein Castle like a sentinel. A massive and tall tower associated with a 16th century dwelling which was enlarged in the 19th century and completed in the 20th century. The tower was originally called Platzleid or Platzlei and is mentioned in the second half of the 13th century. Meinhard II gave it to Konrad Milser in fief in 1282. The name Thurnstein first appears in 1478.
In the years that followed, various families held the castle as fiefdoms: Heustadel, Katzpöck, Planta, Eyrl Rottenpuecher and Wittenbach. At the turn of the 17th century, Thurnstein came into the possession of Alexander von Egen, whose descendants still own it today. The castle is currently an inn where you can drink the famous Napoleon wine. The type of wine received its name when news of the capture of the French Emperor Napoleon III arrived. at Sedan in 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War.

The view of the Merano basin and back to Dorf Tirol is fantastic. Here you will find the most delicious Kaiserschmarrn and a fine house red wine, the "Napoleon". Definitely try it!
