As a kid, I used to walk here regularly with my grandparents. I still remember the sign "Ice is only available in winter" because the Baxmann Baude did not have electricity. But there was delicious covered apple pie. Unfortunately, I can not say if this is still the case today.

Once upon a time, an innkeeper named Baxmann lived in Hessisch-Oldendorf, and there is a scary story about him. Baxmann worked well into old age and earned a lot of money through clever business dealings. But the fellow citizens did not feel comfortable with him. They believed that he made his money in a shady way. When Baxmann died and the mourners returned from the cemetery, the dead man was again standing at the window of his inn. Horrified, the townspeople buried the innkeeper a second time. But this time, too, Baxmann went around town again after his funeral. He was then banished from the monastery to the Süntel by monks. He was only allowed to return to the city once he had exhausted a source in the forest with a sieve. But Baxmann actually succeeded in the seemingly impossible task during a severe winter when the spring was frozen. The innkeeper was then banished to the Süntel again. Now he should do his job with a thimble. Since Baxmann never showed up in Hessisch-Oldendorf again, he will probably still try today to empty the source.
