Jala is a small river that flows through the entire city of Tuzla. It rises in the Majevica area, at the Ravni Liještak site, at an altitude of about 700 m. The total length of the river from its source to its confluence in the Spreče is 37 km. The largest tributary of the Jala is the Solina. Both rivers, narrow streams in summer, often swell so much during heavy rainfall that they overflow their beds and carry everything in front of them, causing great material damage. Sometimes the torrents of the Jala also take human lives. Once upon a time, before the development of industry in this city, the water of the Jala was clear, blue-green (see an old photo of the Bridge with Statues). Due to the discharge of wastewater without prior treatment, the Jala has been one of the most polluted rivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina for decades.
