The flood retention basin in Mühlhausen was built as the first major flood protection measure on the Angelbach after the floods of 1969. The basin currently has a permanent backlog, which will, however, increasingly silt up in the next few years, as the removal of the sediments from the surrounding fields in the lake bed fails due to the resistance of nature conservationists. Any intervention in the nature reserve to clear the sediment, some of which is already visible, is rejected. At the same time, however, work will begin in the near future on a technical fish pass to ensure ecological continuity. The first trees have already been cleared.
