Remains of a former circular rampart and moated castle in Werda - an information board shows what it once looked like.
The remains of the circular rampart and moated castle, as well as the later manor, date from the time of German settlement in the 12th and 13th centuries.
German settlement in the area around Werda began in the 12th and 13th centuries. Werda's moated castle with its circular rampart and the resulting manor also date from this period. The later Werda district of Kottengrün was first mentioned in documents as early as 1320, and Werda itself appears for the first time in documents a good 100 years later, in 1421.
