Lace up your shoes for the North Gate climb up Mount Diablo. This is a classic road bike ascent starting from near the North Gate entrance, you'll tackle approximately 11 miles with an average gradient around 6.6%, gaining over 3,500 feet of elevation to reach the 3,849-foot summit. As you wind your way up through rolling hills and valleys, often initially following creek beds, the oak woodlands and chaparral give way to increasingly exposed slopes higher up. The views build gradually, ultimately exploding into a massive panorama from the top where, on a clear day, you can see across the entire Bay Area, the Central Valley, and even the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains.
