From 27.07.1991 to 12.11.1991, local Serb rebels, supported by the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA), carried out torture, executions and murders of the people of this region. On 12 November 1991, during the occupation and complete destruction of Saborsko, Serbian paramilitary forces and the JNA suppressed the small and poorly armed defenders of Saborsko, entered the town and on that occasion executed 52 locals, Croatian defenders and civilians, mostly women and the elderly, and completely devastated, demolished and burned Saborsko and its surroundings.
The memorial features the "Broken Dove" monument to the victims of the Homeland War, and immediately below it is a fenced-off mass grave site.
