In 1918, the Santacana family, one of the most deeply-rooted in the Penedès region, began its journey into the exciting world of wine.
Years of deep dedication to the land and winemaking have made it one of the most highly valued companies in the wine sector in the Alt Penedès area.
On October 8, 1992, the winery's extension was inaugurated, thus continuing with a demanding, artisanal, respectful ancestral viticulture, firmly committed to the environment and nature, and working day after day to ensure that Montesquius continues to be a reference in cavas and wines.
Lands carefully cared for by people from the town of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia who at the beginning of the 18th century saw how the fruits of this fertile land full of contrasts achieved prosperity. However, it was in 1887, during the phylloxera plague that ravaged the region, when they united infused the lands of the region with tenacity, effort, sacrifice and work to overcome it.
In a common struggle, farmers and producers, among whom was the Santacana family, replanted the vineyards, causing the vines to sprout lushly.
This essence is what will impregnate Montesquius with a bouquet that manages to recall years of efforts to obtain the best fruits for their aging. Origins framed in traditions, underground paths that carefully lull the dream of cavas and wines to optimal aging.
Years of tradition and sacrifice, love for the land and its fruits, traditions and innovations combined with respect for history have managed to make Montesquius a benchmark in the production of cavas and wines.
Montesquius is proud to continue producing its cavas and wines using traditional methods under quality standards that have positioned them among the best cavas and wines in the world.
