This unique museum, which could also be called a museum of nostalgia, takes visitors back to the time of socialist Czechoslovakia. Its basis is a permanent exhibition dedicated to design and lifestyle from the 1960s to the 1980s. The exhibition of Czech post-war design, the only one of its kind in the country, features iconic products in which Czech designers achieved world class despite the problems of the domestic industry: the toy accordion by Libuše Niklová or the irons and hairdryers by Stanislav Lachman. The transport section presents typical means of transport of that time: the Škoda 1000 MB, the Velorex motorized tricycle, the ČZ 502 scooter, known by the nickname "Pig", and the JAWA 250 motorcycle.

The retro museum is located in the former hotel “Zum goldenen Hirschen”. The German poet Friedrich Schiller lived here during his visit to Eger in 1791. He came to the city to visit the scene for his drama about Wallenstein's tragic death. He completed his Wallenstein trilogy in 1799.
