The Hamburg Constitutional Court was founded in October 1953 and is located in the building of the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court / Hamburg Constitutional Court; which was completed in 1912 according to plans by the architects Lund & Kallmorgen.

The civil justice building consists of two parts, of which the extension by Fritz Schumacher is the more interesting. Built in the years 1927-30, the building in the "New Objectivity" style still looks very modern today. The land register hall is particularly outstanding with its convincing colourfulness, the very beautiful faience fountain by Richard Kuöhl and the magnificent central staircase.

The Hanseatic Higher Regional Court (abbreviated HansOLG; officially without the addition of "Hamburg") is the Higher Regional Court of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and therefore part of the ordinary Hamburg jurisdiction.
It is based on Sievekingplatz, which is named after the first President of the OLG, Ernst Friedrich Sieveking.
In 2007, Erika Andreß became the first woman to become President of the Court in the 125-year history of the court.
