Loch Beanie, also known as Loch Shechernich, is a small, shallow freshwater loch featuring an island at its center, approximately 100 meters from the southern shore. The island contains a Crannog made from boulders and small stones, with less than a third of its surface visible above the water. Historical maps, including one by Timothy Pont from around 1600, depict a mansion on the island, described as the former dwelling of the chief of Glenshee and Strathardle. A later map by Robert Gordon of Straloch (1636–1648) also references this building. However, by 1747, the island’s significance and its structure had been largely forgotten.
