Lead Mountain has a summit of 1,479 feet above seal level, making it one of the higher peaks eastern Maine. Lead Mountain on private land, but the public are welcome to hike via Bear Pond Road, and are only permitted to stay on the road. Lead Mountain got it's name by mistake; the bedrock on this mountain has small pieces of pyrrhotite, which was mistaken for lead. From the summit, on a clear day, hikers can see south all the way to Acadia National Park and the ocean harbors around the area.
