Lime Mesa Trail leads to two alpine lakes, Ruby Lake and Emerald Lake. The lakes are seasonal (snowed in during the winter) and take a while to thaw out in the spring and summer months. The trail floods sometimes (especially the higher sections of trail), but this trail is full of growth and wildlife from start to finish.
There are several Emerald Lakes in Colorado, and there are actually two in San Juan National Forest. This is the smaller of the two, but it does hold a stronger emerald color than the larger. This lake is tucked down in a cove at 11,300 feet and has a beautiful backdrop of 12,000 foot peaks.
