The parking area on the Leadville side is located near the top of County Route 2B on a dirt road. The trail immediately dives into the basin and crosses through fields of wildflowers and stream crossings. This meadow is obviously more colorful in the spring and early summer months and quickly turns to scree fields once it starts climbing up to the Sherman-Sheridan saddle.
