In the place of today's church of Guardian Angels, a Catholic church of St. Michael, which for centuries was considered the oldest building in Wałbrzych. Due to the large influx of miners from the Kłodzko county, the number of Catholics increased in the second half of the 19th century. The small old church could no longer accommodate the faithful, so it was necessary to think about building a larger parish church. In 1899, the demolition of the old church began. In its place, in the years 1899-1904, a new parish church of Guardian Angels was built, which was erected in the years 1899-1904, according to the design of A. Langer, a builder from Wrocław. It is a monumental, neo-Gothic temple, built on a Latin cross plan, made of brick and covered with a gable ceramic roof. In the walls of the church - built with buttresses, stained glass windows are 12 m high. 9 epitaph tablets from the earlier church were embedded in the southern façade. Among them, the Renaissance figural epitaphs from the second half of the 16th century are noteworthy: Jadwiga Czettritz and Urszula Czettritz, who were the sisters of the then owner of Wałbrzych - Dipprand Czettritz. The body of the temple is decorated with the already mentioned 80-meter tower, topped with a sharp cupola and a richly decorated turret. The interior of the church: hall, three-nave, covered with a net vault, supported on profiled, polygonal profiled pillars; the furnishings of the church mostly come from the beginning of the 20th century - from the period when the temple was built. Particularly interesting is the neo-Gothic cabinet main altar (from 1904), located in the three-sided presbytery. From the same period there are also the Stations of the Cross, the sculpture-Pieta, the pulpit and others. Attention is also drawn to the much later, because from 1946, beautiful altar of Our Lady of Częstochowa. Older furnishings include: a Renaissance baptismal font from 1593 and two bells from 1467 and 1505. As a result of mining works carried out in the area, the church was in danger of collapsing, especially the church tower tilted dangerously. In the 1990s, the church tower leaned about half a meter from the vertical. In the end, the tower was renovated and thanks to this, this building is a real attraction in the very center of the city. Just go inside to see the enormity of this building, which was built in a small city for those times. At the beginning of the 20th century, the street on which the church stands was one of the most attractive in the city, exclusive shops were located here.
