On March 11, 1874, the foundation stone for what would later become the “Holstenbrauerei” was laid on Brachenfelder Straße. The client was the limited partnership D.H. Hinselmann & Co., who ran a small brewery on Großflecken.

The first construction phase was a cold cellar built in 1864, in which ice from the Schwalewiesen was stored in winter, which cooled the beer barrels until late in the summer.

There have been many additions and renovations over the centuries. In 1922 the building became the property of the Holsten brewery. The first bottled beer was bottled in the brewery on Brachenfelder Straße as early as 1898. In 1960, two bottling plants filled 7,000 bottles of beer per hour.

In 1986, the Holsten Brewery was able to fill 90,000 cans with beer in one hour. On November 28, 1986, the beer tap was turned off. The Holsten brewery left the Neumünster location.

The building complex was renovated and restored by a private investor. The premises are rented to service companies and shops.
