                  The legend - as can be found on the information board - also says that on a summer evening the priest from Fiè allo Sciliar was said to have rested near the Hexenstein. That priest had made it his mission to fight against the witch people. He was able to avert many a disaster through his holy zeal. Through prayers and timely weather bells he was able to avert many a storm brewed by the witches.
                  The priest, who just wanted to rest a bit in the soft moss at the Hexenstein, is said to have fallen asleep a little more soundly. Only when it was pitch black and twelve o'clock struck the Völs Tower did he wake up from his sleep. So it happened that he had to experience first hand the gatherings of the witches, who made a deafening noise and performed wild dances next to the witch stone.
                  When one of the witches discovered the priest, they attacked him and abused him until he no longer gave any signs of life. The priest was said to have been found scratched and mutilated the next morning in torn clothes. That is why it is still pointed out today that “it is not safe here at the Hexenstein and in its immediate surroundings”.
