The former terrace restaurant "Minsk" was built in the 1970s in the modernist style of the GDR based on a design by the architects Karl-Heinz Birkholz and Wolfgang Müller. It is considered an important testimony to GDR architecture. The building was opened in 1977 as a folkloric nationality restaurant serving Belarusian cuisine and was very popular as a place for excursions in GDR times. After the political change, the building became increasingly dilapidated and only just escaped demolition. The Hasso Plattner Foundation acquired the building in 2019 and renovated it. In September 2022 it was reopened as DAS MINSK Kunsthaus in Potsdam. The interior design integrates old elements with a new look. In the two exhibition rooms, GDR art is to be shown in an international context. Works by Wolfgang Mattheuer and Stan Douglas were on display at the opening. There is a café on the upper floor with a panoramic view.
