The Ennepetalsperre is located in the south-west of the town of Breckerfeld in the Ennepe-Ruhr district. It was built between 1902 and 1904. The dam, which belongs to the Ruhrverband, is primarily used to obtain drinking water, but also to raise the level of low water levels in the Ruhr and to generate electricity.

The Ennepetalsperre is a drinking water dam in North Rhine-Westphalia, whose gravity dam was built between 1902 and 1904. On the north-western edge of the Sauerland at the transition to the Ruhr area, it dams the Ennepe, a tributary of the Volme, around ten kilometers south of Hagen. In addition to seven other dams, the Ennepe, as it is also known for short, now belongs to the Ruhrverband in Essen, which is responsible for regulating the water in the Ruhr.
