The papyrus fountain was created by the sculptor and medalist Gernot Rumpf (born in Kaiserslautern in 1941) and donated by Papierwerke Waldhof-Aschaffenburg (PWA) for their 100th company anniversary on June 26, 1984. A number of motifs are borrowed from the art of paper folding. The best-known product of the PWA at that time was Zewa wipe-and-way.
