Ave Maria, that is what the many pilgrims prayed who found hospitality here in the High Middle Ages from 1100 to 1400 on their way from Aachen or Trier. Ave Maria, that is how the hiker today greets our dear Lady of Reinartz."

This memorial stone at the abandoned village of Reinartzhof commemorates the tradition of giving pilgrims and travelers orientation on the long and dangerous routes through the High Fens by ringing a bell.
The Reinartzhof, now a ruin, used to be an important stop at a crossroads in the solitude of the High Fens, southwest of Roetgen.
