                  At the upper end of the square at the foot of the Festungsberg, the town hall has stood for centuries, and has now been intelligently expanded and modernized by the Rainer Köberl consortium with Giner + Wucherer. By purchasing the neighboring buildings Bildsteinhaus and Paramentenstöckl, the main entrance could be moved away from its rather introverted location to the Lower Town Square and towards the main street Oberer Stadtplatz. This change was a main goal of the competition that the city's own real estate company announced in 2008: The previous town hall should "merge with the neighboring buildings into an architecturally valuable unit" in order to function as a multifunctional and customer-friendly town hall with citizen service, representative rooms and commercial space. The design submitted by the architectural community was immediately approved by the jury chaired by Walter Angonese, and even the few elements that the client was initially uncomfortable with - such as the relocation of the community hall from the traditional late Gothic vaulted hall on the ground floor to the roof - , have now convinced us.
