      Dr. Karl Näkel was chairman of the Eifelverein Dernau. With Karl Näkel's assistance, hiking trails and hiking facilities were built, the network of trails marked and the road to Krausberg expanded. However, Näkel earned the greatest merit for the Ahr Valley - together with the then District Administrator Heinz Korbach - with the establishment of the red wine hiking trail.
