The Hollfeld parish church was destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries. After the great fire in the town in 1724, which also destroyed the church and the rectory, the church was renovated. However, its condition continued to deteriorate, so that in 1777 a new building was decided upon. Between 1778 and 1781 the Hollfeld parish church was rebuilt from scratch.
Fritz Ignaz Michael Neumann, the son of the famous Balthasar Neumann, had originally submitted plans for a central building, but these were not approved by the Hollfeld community. A design by the Bamberg master builder Johann Josef Vogel was finally chosen. The church was opened on June 16, 1781, and the ceremonial consecration did not take place until September 10, 1826. The Hollfeld parish church of the Assumption of Mary is an impressive example of Franconian church architecture. On the outside you can admire the simple, early classicist elegance and on the inside the rich and high-quality furnishings of the former Bamberg Dominican Church, which blends harmoniously into the church space.

The parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on the church square was built between 1778 and 1781 according to plans by master builder Johann Josef Vogel. The main altar and the two large side altars inside come from the Dominican church in Bamberg and were transferred to Hollfeld during secularisation. The two small side altars come from the previous church. The two diocese saints St. Heinrich and St. Kunigund are located on the church tower.
